The Association has divided the province into eight regions for the purpose of bringing together the membership to discuss practice issues or social justice concerns in different parts of the province. Urban areas may have issues that are different from rural areas and vice versa. A region consists of one or more counties. Each of the regions can submit the name or names to the nominating committee to be elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting of the Association. Regions may elect co-representatives to assist with the work of the region. The Regional Reps attend Council meetings to represent their region's interests.
The role of Regional Repsentatives on Council may include:
provide a forum to become informed of the business of the Association and be a means for regional members to bring forward concerns to the Council;
Regional Reps may, as a group, solidify concerns and issues of each region so that a clear province-wide picture is presented to Council;
obtain the support of Council and membership for an issue in their region;
determine the region's continuing education needs and communicate these to the Professional Development Committee;
plan for the annual social work week events in their region;
arrange for the Executive Director to visit their region for an exchange of information.
